DjASM™ II FAQs

Q: Can I use a 12-row harness on a 16-row module?
A: Yes, DjASM II will only sense what row units you have plugged in. If you have 10 rows, you can leave the harnessing and connectors unplugged. DjASM II will only recognize the rows you have plugged in.

Q: Will this monitor be able to count population?
A: No, this is a blockage-only monitor. If you would like a monitor that’s similar to DjASM II but with more options, try our Seed Manager SE.

Q: Are DjASM II modules the same as a Seed Manager SE modules?
A: No, both modules are different.

Q: My tractor has a power strip in the cab. Is it ok to power DjASM II from there?
A: No, DICKEY-john requires a direct connection to the battery. Connections to a power strip/convenience plug can cause voltage increases and decreases, causing problems with power to the monitor, sensors, and false row failures.

Q: DjASM II alarms whenever I raise my planter on the ends while I am turning. Is this normal?
A: Yes, DjASM II sounds an alarm to let you know that is does not see any seed drop. DjASM II shouldn’t alarm when you go through the field using a normal planting (all rows planting) mode.

Q: I cannot tell how to plug the power harness into DjASM II. Which way does the plug go in?
A: The clip on the plug should be facing the operator just like DjASM II will. This should be checked before DjASM II is installed.

Q: Do I need a speed input for DjASM II to work properly?
A: No, it does not require a speed input. DjASM II doesn’t require a speed input, because it cannot count population or acres. If you would like to see population or acres, try our Seed Manager SE.

Q: If I think a module has failed on my system how do I check it?
A: Unplug P2 and all the modules. Plug one module into an available slot on P1. Turn your DjASM II off and then back on until a module fails. When it fails you will find the bad module(s). If all of your modules pass the test (no failures occur), unplug P1, plug in P2, and repeat. This eliminates the possibility of a P1 malfunction. If all modules pass on P2, then do same test with all the row harnesses. To do this, plug in P1 or P2, leaving one unplugged, and either take off all the row harnesses or try to stretch P1 or P2 to each row harness. If all row harnesses fail, either the monitor is faulty or there could be a power issue. (See question #4.)

Q: Can I use a bigger fuse than the factory-supplied 7.5-amp fuse?
A: No, a larger fuse may not fail when a voltage increase is detected, damaging the electronics inside DjASM II. If you find that you are blowing fuses, there could be a problem with a power harness. Make sure to inspect all of your harnessing very closely.

Q: Can I use a ground connection rather than the negative battery post?
A: Yes, but the battery post is always the best way to ground a system. If for some reason you do not have enough ground harness, then a direct-frame ground connection should work. Please don’t ground the system in another ground block that other electronics rely on. This could cause a voltage short, spike, or drop. (See question #4.)

Q: Can I switch P1 and P2 if I have a problem with P1?
A: Yes, they both work the same. However, if you’re using a system that requires more than four modules than you can’t switch them. P1 and P2 can only take four modules each. If you require more than eight modules, inspect P1 and try to find why it is defective. If nothing is found, send your monitor and P1or P2 harness to DICKEY-john for service.

Q: If I have a split row planter and I shut off half of my rows, how should I install the modules on my planter?
A: Plug two modules on the front into J1, and two modules on the back into J2. When you want to plant with half of the planter, unplug J1 or J2 to eliminate whichever half you aren’t using.
