Shoreview, Minnesota – DICKEY-john and Farm Journal team up to present a free, online webinar detailing the importance of accurate grain moisture measurement during harvest.

DICKEY-john and Farm Journal hosted a free, online webinar to promote the advantages of accurate moisture measurements during the upcoming 2016 harvest. Dr. Ken Hellevang of North Dakota State University and Roger VanderKolk, DICKEY-john Analytical Product Manager, co-presented the 50 minute webinar. Targeted towards grain producers, the webinar focused on the profitability improvement gained via accurate moisture measurement in four key aspects of the harvest and conditioning cycles:

  1. Accurate combine moisture sensor calibration
  2. Optimized grain dryer control
  3. Accurate storage decisions
  4. Elimination of fees, charges, and discounts at the elevator

“The amount of profitability at risk due to old, inaccurate moisture testers is staggering”, says VanderKolk. “When we talk with producers, many of them are unaware of how much they are losing during a typical harvest because their moisture tester doesn’t match the elevator”.

Dr. Hellevang, the Ag Extension Engineer at North Dakota State University with 30+ years of experience in the grain handling business, concurred. “Accurate understanding of grain moisture is critically important this year. Producers’ margins are being squeezed and unplanned costs could drastically reduce their profitability.”
